Leadership: Without Selling Out
Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens.
Exodus 18:21 (NASB)
You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and subverts the cause of the just.
Exodus 23:8 (NASB)
A bribe corrupts the heart.
Ecclesiastes 7:7 (NASB)
How many leaders rise to their positions without selling out?

Within government, influential lobbyists and powerful organizations fund top candidates to further their legal positions. It's hard to get elected without supporting unholy agendas. Instead of election by truth, we enter subjection by lies: forced to follow men who win by dishonest gain.

Within business, ingenious artists and brilliant writers create catchy ads to further their corporate positions. It's hard to sell products without pushing fun fantasies. Consider three slogans of one global giant: 1) 'Things Go Better with Coke,' 2) 'It's the Real Thing,' 3) 'Open happiness.'

Within entertainment, daring designers and shrewd directors mold attractive images to further their rating positions. It's hard to get hits without promoting false idols. Like sheep without a shepherd, fans follow celebrities who look good, but act bad. Gains by the shrewd bring losses to the innocent.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: The prophet Isaiah spoke of great sin among God's people: 'Your rulers are rebels and companions of thieves; Everyone loves a bribe and chases after rewards. They do not defend the orphan...' (Isaiah 1:23). Has that time come again?

As God's rising stars, your mission is to show God's vision--the real one: the one where leaders don't sell out; the one where shepherds love their sheep; the one where fishing is not a con; the one where Christians refuse bad bait; the one where wealth is not about money.

As you rise in the dark skies of 21st century earth, don't copy the wandering stars who conform to man's image for gain. Instead, copy the Constant Star Who gave His Life for our gain. Be transformed into His Image.

Therein, never sell out to get a part, but always buy in to God's real show: the only show that promises and delivers a glorious conclusion.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
