Love... Does Not Envy
Envy rots the bones.
Proverbs 14:30 (NIV)
For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
James 3:16 (NIV)
Envy's diseased root is a lack of appreciation. Enviers are not satisfied with the garden God gave them to tend. They see other lovely people, places and things they like better. They covet what they don't have and will do almost anything to get it:

Lies. Tricks. Theft. Debt. Bribes. Favors. Seduction. Adultery. Betrayal... Drastic Solutions.

But the One most betrayed is God: How?

1) Enviers don't believe God has their best interest at heart.

2) They are unwilling to wait on their own plants to mature.

3) They continue to believe the 'Grass is Greener' elsewhere.

4) They try to win 'Best In Show' without realizing God is The Judge.

Bottom line: If you start to feel envy:

Count your own blessings, read God's Words about planting, cultivate your garden tenderly, disregard other gardens, dig deep in prayer... and ask God to pull envy up by its root. It is a truly ruinous weed.

Therefore, we love.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
