Love... Is Adoptive
His Own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His Name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:11-13 (NASB)
You have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when He adopted you as His Own children. Now we call Him, 'Abba, Father.'
Romans 8:15 (NLT)
If we are not Jews by birth, then we are adopted children of the Most High God: called, chosen and beloved.
Unlike the mysteries of natural birth, adoption is clear. It's intentional. It's a generous decision to open hearts, arms and homes to the homeless, the Fatherless, the forsaken.
Imagine! The Creator of the Universe chose to adopt us, because we choose to believe in His Son. How wonderful!
Through us, person by person, God builds a mighty kingdom of light. One day it will fill a new earth.
Even now, our kinship-through-Christ status brings us gifts and power. It also brings duty: a family duty that varies according to our talents.
Yet one duty exceeds and connects all others: the duty to communicate God's love;
To broadcast the best news: God's adoption agency is still open. It's still seeking the lost. With zealous determination, our Father desires to adopt every lonely, aching heart.
We are the evidence of His intention: His sons, daughters and messengers.
Therefore, we love.
