Love... Is Constant
Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
Jeremiah 31:3 (NKJV)
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.
Proverbs 17:17 (NIV)
Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.
Psalm 136:26 (NIV)
The surest test of love is adversity. When health fails, when beauty fades, when fortunes fizzle, when futures flop, fake loves flees to greener pastures.
Fickle friends are exposed, and phony love is recognized as a cruel imposter.
Jesus said, 'Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?' (Luke 22:48, NLT).
King David said: 'If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it... But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God' (Psalm 55:12-14, NIV).
On the brighter side, in The Lord of the Rings, author J. R. R. Tolkien (a Christian) illustrates love's beautiful constancy in Sam's friendship with Frodo Baggins.*
Top line: Christ's constant love for us is our example.
Bottom line: Our constant love for others is our example of Him.
Therefore, we love.
