Love... Is Extraordinary
But God demonstrates His Own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 (NASB)
If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them... Love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.
Luke 6:32, 35 (NASB)
Most parents truly love their children. Perhaps the way they love is not wise, but it is real. This love is normal-- not extraordinary.
Most newlyweds love each other. Surely, their love needs to grow up in God, but it is real. This love is precious-- not extraordinary.
Most best friends love each other. Over time, only the strongest ties remain, but they are real. This love is unusual-- not extraordinary.
Loving the unloveable, the undeserving, and especially an enemy, is extremely rare-- truly stunning. This love is extraordinary.
God loves us extraordinarily.
Christians who want to share The Gospel don't necessarily have to travel to a physically impoverished nation. They can visit a spiritually impoverished enemy... and love him (or her).
Not only will your previous adversary be amazed, so will everyone who witnesses this love.
Because unmerited acts of compassion are jaw-dropping, mind-blowing, heart-melting examples of Christ.
Therefore, we love.
