Love... Is Generous
If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion--how can God's love be in that person?
1 John 3:17 (NLT)
He who shuts his ear to the cry of the poor will also cry himself and not be answered.
Proverbs 21:13 (NASB)
Most Christians are familiar with God's Words on giving. Surely, generosity is a holy mandate, and no one will ever be more generous than God.

But consider how generosity gets twisted:

-- Many naive saints have been misled by false shepherds. They tithe (and more) to star-studded churches and pastors. Although no sin would be assigned to naivety, such gifts fund a luxe infrastructure and miss God's mark: the poor.*

-- Giving to charities that help the poor is lovely. However, don't neglect face-to-face interaction, which is certainly how our Lord and Example worked. Middle men must not be a veil of separation.

-- While God says He will repay our generosity, and great Verses explain His unique banking system, these dividends should not be our main motivation. Instead, it must be sharing God's love with those in need.

## Love Series: Love Is Generous (Part 41)

* Luke 4:18 is just one of many Verses that declare God's target audience.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
