Love... Is Genuine
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.
Romans 12:9 (NKJV)
To love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.
Mark 12:33 (NIV)
Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
Matthew 23:25 (NIV)
Ever wonder why lots of PKs go astray? Or why most altar-call conversions do not stick? Or why some church kids leave the faith when they leave home?*

As a late-in-life Christian, I was curious. Even so, I think I can make a savvy guess. Perhaps the high drop rate in new or young Christians is why it took me so long to commit to Christ: hypocrisy.

I saw religious people pointing mean fingers. Their self-righteousness just didn't add up to me. When they messed up, they didn't fess up--or repent. To me, their love did not prove genuine, but fake.

Here's the thing: As Christians, if we can't be kind to outsiders, regardless of their background or circumstances, we should stay home and study the Man named Jesus.

Only genuine love will secure young Christians enough to keep new them in the world's finest flock... or to draw them back into the fold if they stray... or to win the attention of non-believers.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
