Love... Is Not Idolatry
These men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces...
It shall come about if you ever forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish.
Idolatry is not love. Nor is it lust, because idolators are not trying to acquire... they're trying to worship.
I believe man is created to worship, 'To the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory' (Ephesians 1:12, NASB).
I believe our comparison to sheep is accurate. We are followers. Even our leaders are followers. They may be commanders of fifties, hundreds or more, but no leader on earth is the King of kings.
So if humans are naturally inclined to worship, the urgent question is who (or what) are we worshipping?
If it's celebrity, entertainment, fame, money, possessions, positions, education, beauty or power, we're in danger. Because none of them can save us. Although their promoters profit from our worship, idols are deaf and dumb to our cries.
If we think church-goers are immune from idolatry, we think wrong. False prophets were a grave problem when the first apostles lived--and surely more so now.
Hard fact: America is idolatry's capital and media is its king. Nevertheless, God allowed it, and we can use both for His purposes.
Therefore, we love.
