Love... Is Not Proud
Haughty eyes and a proud heart,
The lamp of the wicked, is sin.
Proverbs 21:4 (NASB)
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
1 John 2:16 (NASB)
For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
Galatians 6:3 (NASB)
The Bible is clear on the down side of pride. It's a fall at best and a pit at worst. Pride is a faulty foundation for any type of construction, including love. Because pride negates God, and voids beg to be filled.
Therein, where God is not, Satan is. Where Satan is, love is not.
The Bible is equally clear on the up side of humility, as the foundation for true love. Because humility invites God, and His Holy Spirit fills us. Therein, where God is, love reigns. Because true loves is found only through God.
Proud love is like a fake wedding ring: looks great, soon to tarnish, sure to break.
Proud love is like superficial worship: sounds great, soon to fade, sure to forget.
Proud love is like a fair-weather friend: seems great, soon to cloud, sure to leave.
True love is like God: unbreakable, unforgettable and eternal. Therefore, let us continue to humble ourselves that we may be increasingly filled with His loving Presence.
