Love... Is Patient
Love is patient.
Be patient, bearing with one another in love.
God's Word is alive. It is illuminating and transforming. Among the most cherished Bible Chapters is 1 Corinthians 13.
Recently, I memorized this section (no small feat at my age), because I desire this transformation. It's high time.
One hallmark of love I am eager to grow is patience. Gotta have it. So I'm working out my patience muscles in life's everyday moments, like check-out lines, phone queues or traffic jams.
Where love is concerned, patience is loving people steadfastly: even when they're slow to understand, slow to love you back or slow to make suggested improvements.
Why? Because we serve the God of love. Because we're supposed to copy Him and because He is incredibly p-a-t-i-e-n-t with us:
Waiting, cherishing and believing in us, even to the hour of our death.
To the convicted and repentant sinner hanging on a cross next to Him, Jesus said, 'Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in paradise' (Luke 23:43, NIV).
'The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance' (2 Peter 3:9, NIV).
'The Lord is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness' (Psalm 145:8, NASB).
Therefore, we love.
