Monster High (Part 1)
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness.
Isaiah 5:20 (NKJV)
Are we high on monsters? Judging from media, I'd say yes. Occult entertainment is a narcotic produced in America and exported worldwide. The richest drug cartel on Earth can neither match its income nor its effects--but this drug is legal. From it, demons dressed up like darlings are mainlined into our culture.

Kids are the first target, and they're buying in big--because most parents are blind to the danger, including Christians. I was no exception. When my daughters were teens, we liked Charmed: a hit TV show about pretty witches. It seemed like good, clean fun. Decades earlier, I watched Dark Shadows and Bewitched. As a kid in the 60s, it was Casper the Friendly Ghost.

I no longer find anything friendly about it. Casper has morphed and exploded. Consider Disney's, 'My Babysitter's A Vampire' and 'The Wizards of Waverly Place,' MTV's 'Teen Wolf,' NBC's 'Grimm' and 'Dracula,' ABC's '666 Park Avenue,' CW's 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'Supernatural,' AMC's 'The Walking Dead,' HBO's 'True Blood' or Fox's 'Sleepy Hollow.' I bet you know more than I do, but I wish you didn't.

Consider Nintendo's mega-franchise begun in the 80s called Pokemon. Pokemon means 'pocket monster.' Or the book-to-movie phenomenon called Harry Potter. It grew progressively darker... because progressive darkness is Satan's plan. It's a gradual eclipse of light that starts in childhood. Before we know it, we're living in semi-darkness. Monsters seems perfectly normal--even desirable, and many of them want to help mankind.

Yeah, right... and Satan tells the truth... and hell does not exist... and even if it does, the monsters down there are attractive and fun. It's like a party... and Heaven is boring.

You don't believe this, do you? But don't take my word for it, ask Jesus. We know He is 'The Way, the Truth, and the Life' (John 14:6). What does He think about the occult?*

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
