Monster High (Part 2, Conclusion)
The fool has said in his heart,
'There is no God.'
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.
The Lord looks down from Heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.
Psalm 14:1-3 (NKJV)
I was pricked into writing this devotion when I read two articles in the Christian Post:* 1) Mattel's launch of Goth Barbies: now the second-best-selling dolls in the world. They include Frankie Stein, Draculaura, and Clawdeen Wolf. Their school is Monster High. Their logo is a skull with a bow. Their slogan is 'Where screams come true.'

2) A review of the Pixar film, Monster University. Its logo is a screaming cyclops. Its slogan is 'We scare because we care.' Its website says: 'As most kids know, a closet door is one of the few things capable of keeping monsters at bay. With this simple dividing line, the Pixar team created worlds for both sides of the door.'

In early 2013, the 'Once Upon A Zombie' dolls were released, including Zombie Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.** From their website: 'Something's gone wrong in the Fairy Tale Universe! All of the iconic, beloved characters are transforming into zombies! All their kingdoms... are decaying into wastelands.'

Consider these notes on Psalm 14:1-3: 'It means to turn away from God; to fall away from his worship... no term could be used more clearly affirming the doctrine of universal depravity' (Albert Barnes). ***

Actors, models and talent for Christ: fight universal depravity. 'Hate evil, love good; Establish justice in the gate' (Amos 5:15). Even the gates of Hollywood. How? Set a new standard. Don't buy into monsters. Say 'No' to occult involvement: recreational, occupational and conversational.

If you got inoculated as a kid into this culture of corruption, repent. Ask God to make you clean, because it's one of His best magic tricks: 'If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness' (1 John 1:9).

Because the magic of Jesus Christ is the only magic that will make you rise, the only magic that will kill every monster. Because every monster will fall. So step away from the losing team.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
