Name Calling
To those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling...
1 Corinthians 1:2 (NAS)
I am sad to remember bad names I have carelessly or maliciously called out, even to my children. Name calling can be holy or deadly, life-enriching or life-taking. If you were raised in a household or school yard of bad labels, remove them. Peel them off and give them to God.

Have you heard words like 'loser, ugly, fat, stupid, lazy,' or worse? Maybe even curses? Have you said them yourself? Have you gossiped? I am guilty as charged. I am also a victim.

I thank the Lord who frees us from bad words and destructive destinies. I am washed white as snow with His very own blood. How does the red blood of Jesus make us clean? It's a transforming miracle we cannot understand, but one for which we are forever grateful.

Let's make a commitment to speak God's words over ourselves and all others. Even our enemies. What words does God use to describe us?

The Bible calls us 'saints' and 'fellow citizens.' We are members 'of the household of God.' God calls us 'priests, disciples, royalty, a chosen generation, the head, special people, children of God, children of light, heirs of God, joint heirs with Christ, ambassadors for Christ, the body of Christ, men of valor, warriors, brave men, good men, free men, select men, mighty men, men of truth,' and 'men who fear God.'

We are called 'blessed, predestined, beautiful, beloved, well-favored, bold as a lion, more than conquerors, holy, redeemed, justified, forgiven, worthy, upright, ordained, righteous, strong, excellent, patient, kind, humble, gracious, hospitable, generous, ready to share, obedient, respectable, loving, joyful, wise, sober, just, self-controlled, crowned with knowledge, sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, united in Christ, united by spirit, united by faith, stars of heaven, stars of light,' and 'stars for ever and ever.' A mouthful of good?

Yes! Rehearse God's name calling. Be transformed. Be enriched, and enrich others.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
