Name Tags (Part 1)
Their Power
Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Proverbs 18:21 (NASB)
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Luke 6:45 (NKJV)
For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
Matthew 12:37 (NIV)
If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.
James 1:26 (NLT)
Satan understands the power of words, because God spoke the earth into existence: because Jesus is called the Word of God; because His Spirit inspired the Bible; because His prophets declared destinies; because His heroes fought by Word and deed; because evil men twisted His Orders, because the worst men claimed their words were His, because His children were misled by them... so the Best Man came to reaffirm the Truth.

Actors, models & talent for Christ: Surely, you've lived long enough to know evil name tags can cut to the heart. Have you said, received or believed them? Words like stupid, loser or worthless. Words of hatred and condemnation. Have they caused fear and isolation? Have they tied you down and held you back? Because words can bring good or evil.

Because the devil wants to pin you with deadly and deceitful name tags: verbal abuse that hammers like fists. But Christ took the hits on your behalf. At the same time, He and His Father gave you completely different names. They're each spelled out in the Book of books--and rest assured, they're perfectly true. So let's take the time to study them.

Your identity is found therein.*

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
