Name Tags: You Are... (Part 54)
Husbands, Wives & Kin
'Who is My mother and who are My brothers?' And He stretched out His Hand toward His disciples and said, 'Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.'
Matthew 12:48-50 (NKJV)
God's will is unity.

If a husband should cleave unto his wife, if a wife's duty is to respect him, if their children are charged to honor them, if Christ gave His Life to make us His kin, if God adopted us on His behalf... How well have we, His family, obeyed?

Because most Christians today fume and fight. They ignore their Namesake's heartfelt appeal. Many take offense and will not forgive. They forget the success love always brings and break apart in bitter divisions.

But Jesus said when we feud publicly, the world won't believe that He is God's Son. This extraordinary revelation was recorded in a fervent Prayer for His present and future disciples... shortly before Christ's arrest and trial.

'I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me' (John 17:20-21, NKJV).

As in... they won't trust Him if we are split. As in... what can this so-called Messiah offer them that's better than what they have? Evidently, it can't be peace or joy, judging by His self-professed followers... or so outsiders are led to believe.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: I realize this subject matter is not politically correct: not in the world nor most of His church. (And I confess: I've had my break-ups, too.) Even so, I ask you to re-read Christ's mandates regarding family.

You shouldn't copy a broken world, but model a happy family.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
