Name Tags: You Are... (Part 6)
Now it is God Who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us...
2 Corinthians 1:21 (NIV)
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.
Psalm 23:5 (NASB)
They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
1 John 2:19-20 (NASB)
When Christians are described as anointed, they're consecrated or dedicated to the service of the Almighty God. Oil is anointment's physical symbol, and oil can be poured on a new king's head.* Also, devoted followers of Christ are anointed with His Holy Spirit.

'It is God Who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and He has identified us as His Own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first Installment that guarantees everything He has promised us' (2 Corinthians 1:21-22, NLT).

(Re: 2 Corinthians 1:21, instead of using the word, anointed, translators favored the word, commissioned.)

Actors, models and talent for Christ: With God's Spirit and His Commission, you are anointed to do His work--even on the hills of Hollywood. If you've ever felt insubstantial or lacking God's power and purpose, sever the liar's slander campaign with the no-fail Sword of the Spirit: The Word of God, a.k.a. Jesus.

Because the shining Sword of Jesus was consecrated for your safety. It was anointed by His Own Blood. It is a Heart-to-heart transfusion and a Crown-to-crown coronation. Satan can't deny your anointment, but he'll try to make you forget it.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
