Name Tags: You Are... (Part 84)
Signed & Sealed
Now it is God Who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a Deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 (NIV)
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with Whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:30 (NIV)
Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
Luke 10:20 (NIV)
Man-to-man contracts are taxing business: often one-sided and painful to bear. But most sellers and buyers require them, as the guarantees of what is to come. Sadly, as countless victims would attest, contracts are broken and justice can fail.

God-to-man contracts are perfectly fair. They're extraordinarily generous in the business of... He-gives-we-receive. What God asks of us is for our own good and seems so small compared to the result: true joy on earth and everlasting life.

Consider this: the deal is so simple even children understand and sign on. The Proof of the merger is God's Spirit, Who brings the most awesome fringe benefits. This being said, this bond is serious: We must meet three responsibilities:

1) Heartfelt faith in Jesus as Christ and Lord.
2) Acting in obedience to His Words.
3) Carrying our cross and following Him.

A lot is written (and should be studied) regarding our duties in this contract. But the First Party to earth's biggest deal exhibits ceaseless patience and mercy every time we mess up... if we fess up, repent and try again to keep our end.

And part of our end is bearing witness to the best offer in this troubled world.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
