Our Citizenship (Part 2)
Earth's Government
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.
Ephesians 2:19 (NKJV)
I believe it to be of urgent importance that we teach our children and remind brothers and sisters of our citizenship: where it is (Heaven) and where it is not (earth); who we are (saints) and who we are not (sinners)--not because of our righteousness or perfection, but because of His.

This heavenly status report cannot be repeated too often. Why not? Because Satan is unrelenting in his attempts to make us forget who we are in Christ: to bind us in a covenant of guilt, to conform us to his government on Planet Earth. But our life here is temporary. The one that follows is eternal.

Earth's government will one day be ruled by King Jesus and administered by His saints.

Until then, are we to rebel against the national and local governments under which we live? No. Jesus clarifies: 'Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's' (Matthew 22:21). God allows human governments, and we are told to respect their laws.

Our mission on earth is one of spiritual diplomacy as 'Ambassadors of Christ' (2 Corinthians 5:20) with 'Good tidings of great joy' (Luke 2:10): an invitation to a higher citizenship with all of its rewards. Along the way we fight, but the battle is not against people (see Ephesians 6:12).

Therefore, Satan tries to subvert our purposes by confusing us--beginning with our identity. He would like us to forget that we are saints and focus on 'hanging' with the world. But one Man hung on a cross with sinners, and that's no longer our job, our identity, nor our destiny.

Our destiny is to follow Jesus. Our destiny is to rise.

'Then the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole Heaven, shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him' (Daniel 7:27).
