But I am not silenced by the darkness, nor deep gloom which covers me.
Job 23:17 (NAS)
The media wraps around the earth like a deep, dark blanket. It covered me most of my life. I was a CNN junky: watching, hearing, fearing, and believing. Insult adds to injury with television and movies that make dark behavior common--even glorify it. The internet globalizes the darkness with a deceptive ease that invites small children inside.
But wait, God knew this age of media would close in upon us--long before we were born into it. Better yet, He predicted a great outcome, one that will expose the evil. Even more, He tells us what has happened, what to do, and what will happen:
What has happened: 'For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples' (Isaiah 60:2).
What to do: 'Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you' (Isaiah 60:1).
What will happen: 'But the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising' (Isaiah 60:2-3).
Does God give us commandments to do before we can achieve this glorious outcome? Yes. 'And if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness' (Isaiah 58:10). Who are the hungry and afflicted? The fans! The millions of people who look to the media and its stars for guidance: the masses who are led astray.
Take heart, you who are actors, models and talent for Christ. Be strengthened and encouraged, you who love their dreams. Learn a lesson from Job, one of God's most afflicted heroes, one who would not be silenced. Just like Job, you will not be silenced, and you will be rewarded beyond anything you can imagine.
