Passionate! Like Paul: Peace
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
Peace is a theme of the Bible, a focus of the Epistles and a priority for Paul.
Peace is like standing in the eye of a hurricane. Hell may circle around you, but you stay calm.
Peace is like walking in a force field from Star Trek. Enemies may attack you, but you stay protected.
Peace is like dressing in the armor of God. Scorners may harass you, but you stay covered. Because God's Own Power is found in peace.
'A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you' (Psalm 91:7).*
Because we serve 'The God of peace' (Romans 15:33) and 'The Prince of peace' (Isaiah 9:6), 'To keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace' (Ephesians 4:3). By Jesus, we have 'The Way of peace' (Luke 1:79) with a 'Covenant of peace' (Isaiah 54:10). By His Spirit, we have 'The counsel of peace' (Zechariah 6:13) with 'Thoughts of peace' (Jeremiah 29:11).
Our purpose? The Great Commission: a 'Gospel of peace' (Ephesians 6:15) in 'Words of peace' (Esther 9:30); 'An answer of peace' (Genesis 41:16), an 'Offer of peace' (Deuteronomy 20:11) for a 'Time of peace' (Ecclesiastes 3:8).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: As an outsider for 51 years, worry and strife were my norms. Peace (and the joy that accompanies it) is an excellent calling card for Christ. Because outsiders don't have it. That's why most go from distraction to diversion, trying to avoid stillness. Because in stillness without God, the war of the soul is quite evident.
Therefore, seek peace and pursue it. Be an oasis of peace, because others will be drawn to the Refreshment you carry. 'He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water' ' (John 7:38).
'Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen' (Romans 15:33).

NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2015 series called, 'Paul's Powerful Priorities.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Passionate! Like Paul series.
