The love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Is life like a game? Trivial Pursuit? Maybe Monopoly? Do we travel around making deals, avoiding risks, and seeking bucks? Or is life more like football? Taking direction, planning plays, and pushing through? I prefer football.
Paul said life was like a marathon. 'Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith' (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Paul said life was like a fight: 'Fight the good fight of faith' (1 Timothy 6:12). 'For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day...' (Ephesians 6:12-13).*
Clearly, every man pursues something: power, position and possessions; comfort, security and retirement. But Jesus, the Man, pursued one thing
only: 'He who sent Me is with Me... for I always do those things that please Him' (John 8:29). Jesus sought to please God, and He told us how to follow His lead:
'If you continue
in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the Truth, and the Truth will make you free' (John 8:31-32).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: You're human. You're performers. God understands you seek an audience, community and a place to share your gifts. He's the One Who gave you talents and the desire to multiply them. But along the way (because His will is a path and a process)...
Be thankful, be appreciative, and be patient. He promises to reward your search: 'Seek and you will find' (Matthew 7:7). Even so, remember your Goal, your Priority and your first Love: 'Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you' (Matthew 6:33).
Jesus did. Paul did. Now it's our turn.
