Personal Pronouns (Part 3)
He, Him, His
Then Moses said to God, 'Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they say to me, 'What is His name?' what shall I say to them?'

And God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.' And He said, 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' Moreover God said to Moses, 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: 'The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My Name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.' '
Exodus 3:13-15 (NKJV)
In the Bible, names are descriptive. The Lord's Name is so holy, so magnificent and so broad that our minds and our mouths cannot contain It. Therefore, He gives us more than one Name for Himself--that we may glimpse different aspects of His majesty.

As servants of our 'Sovereign Lord' (2 Samuel 7:28), we receive benefits--'For our citizenship is in Heaven' (Philippians 3:20). But our Sovereign Lord is also our Father, so we receive even greater benefits.

However, to enjoy the privileges of 'Children of God... and joint heirs with Christ' (Romans 8:16-17), we must focus on He, Him and His--as opposed to I, me and my. We must repent from narcissism and live in opposition to American idols. We must go against the cultural flow. How?

We give instead of get. We pray instead of purchase. We clean up our image and clean out our closet. We talk about God's work instead of our own. We choose God's Voice over the People's Choice. We forget our heels and remember His sandals--the ones we're not worthy to strap.

Because it's not about us, but Him.

'At the Name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in Heaven and on earth and under the earth' (Philippians 2:10). 'If you ask anything in My Name, I will do it' (John 14:14). 'The Name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe' (Proverbs 18:10).

'He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His Name's sake' (Psalm 23:3). 'And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My Name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life' (Matthew 19:29).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
