Poor People (Part 21)
There is a generation that curses its father,
And does not bless its mother.
There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes,
Yet is not washed from its filthiness.
There is a generation--oh, how lofty are their eyes!
And their eyelids are lifted up.
There is a generation whose teeth are like swords,
And whose fangs are like knives,
To devour the poor from off the earth,
And the needy from among men.
Proverbs 30:11-14 (NKJV)*
A generation is judged by its treatment of the poor. Do we ignore their circumstances through our busyness? Do we tempt them to buy useless products through phony ads? Do we flaunt our fancies before them through celebrity?
Do we give them away to tough gangs and tougher prisons? Do we enchant their children with one-eyed babysitters? Do we teach them lewd lessons of lust and idol worship? Do we toss them our handouts... or offer them a hand up?
Actors, models and talent for Christ: You are earth's saving generation: 'A chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His Own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light' (1 Peter 2:9);
'The generation of the righteous' (Psalm 14:5), 'The generation of the upright' (Psalm 112:2), 'The generation of those who seek Him' (Psalm 24:6), 'Children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world' (Philippians 2:15).
Therefore, know your role. Don't think of blending. Your job is to shine, to rise from the old, to star on earth's screens, to be role models... and you know all this. Yet in your pursuit of this assignment, don't prefer small bosses to the Big Boss. And don't forget your focus: poor people.

* Bible description of the end-times generation: 'In the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power... always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth' (2 Timothy 3:1-7).
