Practice Makes Perfect (Part 10)
A Broad Descent
For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction...
Matthew 7:13 (NIV)
They are all stubborn rebels, walking as slanderers.
Jeremiah 6:28 (NKJV)
So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, to walk in their own counsels.
Psalm 81:12 (NKJV)
They have walked after other gods and have served them and worshiped them, and have forsaken Me...
Jeremiah 16:11 (NKJV)
From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
John 6:66 (NKJV)
The road to ruin begins as a gentle decline, because down is easier than up. It's a bustling boulevard, bursting with tourist attractions. It's a broad path tempting travelers to go with the flow, to rest with the best, to buy on the fly. Stop signs are ignored. Outlaws are adored.
Christians are not immune to the attractions of Easy Street. By your status, you'll receive special offers. Because every follower of Jesus has a cross on his back. To the enemy, it spells T, for target. His deal? Hot clothes at cool prices--if only you'll remove that robe of righteousness.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: how you walk determines where you go. 'All day long I have held out My Hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations' (Isaiah 65:2). Too many women appear 'Haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying hips' (Isaiah 3:16).
So listen up: Even if 'You once walked according to the course of this world' (Ephesians 2:2), that was then and this is now. Therein, 'Do not walk according to the flesh' (Romans 8:4); 'Nor shall you walk haughtily' (Micah 2:3)...
Do not 'Walk in a false spirit' (Micah 2:11); Do not 'Walk like blind men' (Zephaniah 1:17), nor follow 'Blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit' (Matthew 15:14), because 'They walk about in darkness' (Psalm 82:5)...
'Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil' (Proverbs 4:14); Do not 'Walk in pride' (Daniel 4:37), and do not 'Walk in lies' (Jeremiah 23:14)...
Just don't go there.
