Proverbs For Performers: Doubters? Show Them Works
Even a child is known by his deeds,
Whether what he does is pure and right.
Proverbs 20:11 (NKJV)
The very works that I do--bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.
John 5:36 (NKJV)
If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.
John 10:37-38 (NKJV)
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
John 14:11 (NKJV)
People meet Jesus in different ways.

During a period of brokenness, I read books and watched preachers on TV, but the Bible is how my heart revived.

During a period of questioning, my son-in-law asked God to show Himself, so God came to him in a mighty dream.

During a period of deep mourning, the resurrected Messiah appeared to Mary and ten of His disciples. However, Thomas was not among them. This brave follower voiced what others felt; he needed to see and touch to believe Jesus, his Master, truly had risen.

In the Book of John, Jesus made it clear: evidential works are necessary. He didn't denounce Thomas (or others) whose faith depended on a must-see need.*

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Salvation doesn't come from your works, but it should be witnessed by your works.**

Works are walking and not just talking.
Works are giving and not just taking.
Works are serving and not just sitting.
Works are daily and not just Sunday.

Works are feeding earth's starving people God's life-saving spiritual fruit.***

Works are evidence of your faith in the trials all Christians must face.

Works are your stand up performances in media-- both onstage and off.

'Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven' (Matthew 5:16, NKJV).

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2016 devotion series, 'Proverbs For Performers.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Proverbs For Performers series.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
