Proverbs For Performers: Fishing With God's Bait
Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man.
Proverbs 3:3-4 (NKJV)
All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, to such as keep His Covenant and His Testimonies.
Psalms 25:10 (NKJV)*
Actors, models and talent for Christ: You're all about putting on a show. In this way, you are fishers of men. Your talent is bright, beautiful bait; drawing attention in dark places.

Your hook is impressive behavior; acting compassionately off stage. Your net of salvation is Good News; writing One Word in the sky: Jesus.

He's not just working on land and sea, but also through media's airwaves. The Captain of our world's salvation commands a group of fighter pilots: courageous, attractive dare devils.

They storm the gates of the enemy.** They circle a land called Hollywood, confident they have nothing to lose, assured they have everything to gain.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: You're a squadron of flying aces. Your only enemy is Satan, and your weightiest weapon is love. In you, 'Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed' (Psalm 85:10, NKJV).***

The toughest kind of love is mercy, but you're the toughest kind of fighters. Because mercy is relentless love: toward villains who don't deserve it and losers most often overlooked.

By fishing with the bait you've received, by flying into all mission fields, by waving wings in truth and mercy, you'll inspire shy brethren in the church and invite new brethren in the world--to go higher than they've imagined.

** How to Storm the Gates of Hell (article in Charisma Magazine):

*** Psalm 85:10 in context (below) and in full:

'Mercy and truth have met together;
Righteousness and peace have kissed.
Truth shall spring out of the earth,
And righteousness shall look down from heaven.
Yes, the Lord will give what is good;
And our land will yield its increase.
Righteousness will go before Him,
And shall make His footsteps our pathway...' (Psalm 85:10-13).

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2016 devotion series, 'Proverbs For Performers.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
