Proverbs For Performers: Hiding From The Lord
The Eyes of the Lord are in every place,
Keeping watch on the evil and the good.
Proverbs 15:3 (NKJV)
For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.
Luke 8:17 (NKJV)
And there is no creature hidden from His Sight, but all things are naked and open to the Eyes of Him to Whom we must give account.
Hebrews 4:13 (NKJV)
Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 'Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.' But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.
Jonah 1:1-3 (NKJV)
The Bible's biggest hider was Jonah. Although David hid in cavernous holes and Jesus sometimes retreated from men, neither hid from God. Instead, they sought Him. But Jonah's spectacular adventure speaks to our fears and imaginations.

Jonah fled because he hated the job His Master commissioned him to perform: traveling to the enemy's stronghold on a mission of undeserved mercy (or so Jonah reasonably believed).* Because the Ninevites worshipped idols and attacked the children of Israel.

Did Jonah forget about the Lord's Eyes, from which nothing can ever be hidden? Did he think the Lord might give him a pass and send someone else on this strange mission? Did he doubt God's reasoning and justice?* Did God know who was wrong and what was right?

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Many in church have hidden from God, or at least from His Great Commission. They preferred the relative safety (or so they short-sightedly believed) of hanging pleasantly with their kin.

But Jesus, their self-professed Master, hung unpleasantly to save the world.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Like a mother, I am proud of you. I see you following your Leader right into the enemy's stronghold: the mega-structures of media where idol worship is promoted.

Your rising is ordered and ordained. Take the utmost delight in knowing the Lord is watching your every move, and I believe He is pleased with you. As for your kin currently hiding, perhaps your movement will inspire them.

## Proverbs For Performers: Hiding From The Lord (Part 65)

* God's reasoning is beyond our capacity to understand.

'For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,' says the Lord.
'For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts' (Isaiah 55:8-9).

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2016 devotion series, 'Proverbs For Performers.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Proverbs For Performers series.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
