Proverbs For Performers: Our Generation?
There is a generation that curses its father,
And does not bless its mother.
There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes,
Yet is not washed from its filthiness.
There is a generation--oh, how lofty are their eyes!
And their eyelids are lifted up.
There is a generation whose teeth are like swords,
And whose fangs are like knives,
To devour the poor from off the earth,
And the needy from among men.
Proverbs 30:11-14 (NKJV)
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power... always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Timothy 3:2-7 (NKJV)
Could our generation be described as haughty and headstrong lovers of pleasure?

Has our grand land of opportunity been transformed into an amusement park?

Is celebrity our leading export, enriching studios and superstars?

Have we become self-centered consumers trying to buy the American dream?

Are we thought of as 'Sheep to be slaughtered' (Romans 8:36, NIV) by clever media merchandizers?

Does corporate greed spur personal lust, tempting us to live by their examples?

Is this corruption mainly in the world, prompting us to hide in Christian bubbles?

Actors, models and talent for Christ: God's generational indictments published in Proverbs and Timothy were not for outsiders, but for us. He wasn't spelling out the world's sins (although the world is surely sinful).

God describes a sickness in the church, so His beloved sheep would be warned...

'That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the Word of life' (Philippians 2:15-16, NKJV). 'This is the generation of those who seek Him' (Psalm 24:6, NKJV).

For such a time and in such a way, you've been called to rise in media: to ignite a new generation, as modern 'Ambassadors for Christ' (2 Corinthians 5:20, NKJV).

## Proverbs For Performers: Our Generation? (Part 91)

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2016 devotion series, 'Proverbs For Performers.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Proverbs For Performers series.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
