Proverbs For Performers (Part 18)
Learning God's Secrets
His secret counsel is with the upright.
Proverbs 3:32 (NKJV)
To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven... Blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
Matthew 13:11,16-17 (NASB)
We speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew... But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit... that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
1 Corinthians 2:7-8,10-12 (NKJV) *
Our unseen God remains mysterious. He reveals Himself to whom He chooses, and so it has been since Adam and Eve.** When the Word became Flesh and walked the earth, the invisible God was visible. Salvation's Who, what, when, where, why and how were perfectly answered for God's elect.

Still, our enlightenment continues. While we can't see Jesus physically, we can meet Him in The Book He gave us. All but the most beleaguered believers enjoy access to Wisdom's Final Word. Yet for those who lack God on the Pages, they've become extra close to the Teacher.***

Actors, models and talent for Christ: We serve a God Who loves mysteries, because solving them helps us grow up. Christian apologists love the hunt. Like Bereans in the early church, they search the Scriptures for clarity.

Consider Proverbs like hidden Jewels, leading to the Pearl of greatest price. Or Stones in your temple's construction, growing higher, stronger and mighty. Or a Trail of nourishing Bread Crumbs, leading us toward the Bread of Life.

Or footlights on a narrow runway, elevating the models for Christ. Or Notes of the most compelling Song, drawing listeners to God's Ballad. Or Parts of a Script you must master, prompting your speech as ambassadors.

The Lord's Answer requires our seeking.

To Be Continued...

* Entire section called 'Spiritual Wisdom' in 1 Corinthians 2:6-15:

* A Christian apologist (Kevin Bennett) discusses the Bible's use of the words 'mystery' and 'secrets.' This interesting article highlights many key Verses (especially in the New Testament) and his thoughts on them:

* Previous AMTC devotion, The Mystery:

** See John 6:44 and 6:65, which occur in a section where weak or false disciples were tested by mysteries they couldn't easily solve and lost the heart of patient, faithful continuance... and fell away:

*** We need the Holy Spirit, too. Without Him, we can't understand the continuing mysteries God wants us to understand and share, as 1 Corinthians 2:6-15 emphasizes. But for those of us with access to God's Word and His Spirit, we've been given much, so we must give much more.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
