Proverbs For Performers (Part 21)
Don't Laze Around Town
Go to the ant, you sluggard!

Consider her ways and be wise,

Which, having no captain,

Overseer or ruler,

Provides her supplies in the summer,

And gathers her food in the harvest.

How long will you slumber, O sluggard?

When will you rise from your sleep?

A little sleep, a little slumber,

A little folding of the hands to sleep--

So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler,

And your need like an armed man.
Proverbs 6:6-11 (NKJV)
The Word of God speaks frequently about vigilance, diligence and industry; perseverance and continuation. The payoffs for eager activity, for being about our Father's business, for the mission of the Great Commission, come as blessings too abundant to count.

Perhaps they boil down to seeking and finding: pursuing the Lord, reading the Bible, asking His wisdom, obeying His Words, bowing in prayer, following Jesus, carrying crosses, assisting neighbors, loving enemies, welcoming strangers, visiting inmates, going and seeing, caring and tending, moving and shaking...

Opening the doors, ignoring the risks, enduring the pain, pushing through hellfire, stomping on serpents, lighting the darkness, hunting the lonely, bringing them back, upholding the weak, acting like He did, modeling His style, singing harmony, dancing His heart out and taking the roles we were called to play.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Are Americans lukewarm believers? Are we snuggled up and satisfied? Are we bottle-fed and strolled around? Are we pampered and proudly prancing? Because we serve an action Hero Who expects us to face Satan's team and go to the world on His behalf.

As a field must be cultivated, faith must be activated... by work.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
