Proverbs For Performers (Part 30)
Don't Walk On Hot Coals
My son, pay attention to my wisdom;

Lend your ear to my understanding,

That you may preserve discretion,

And your lips may keep knowledge.

For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey,

And her mouth is smoother than oil;

But in the end she is bitter as wormwood,

Sharp as a two-edged sword.

Her feet go down to death,

Her steps lay hold of hell.
Proverbs 5:1-5 (NKJV)
Can one walk on hot coals,

And his feet not be seared?

Proverbs 6:28 (NKJV)
In God's Word, we find good fires and bad fires. His Own Holy Spirit is The Good Fire: a Fire enlightening our darkest nights; a Fire keeping us warm in a cold world; a Fire clearing our path to a new life; a Fire igniting our passion in Christ.

Satan is the kindler of deadly fire: a fire fueling hatred and contentions; a fire consuming lives and destinies; a fire charming people by its power; a fire melting virtuous intentions; a fire transforming passion into lust; a fire tempting us to walk on hot coals.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Destinies have been brought to ruin by fake flirts, quick thrills and risky roads. An immoral woman in God's Word can be exactly what He describes. But she's also a symbol for lust: a downward path to the gates of hell:

A flatterer when you feel lonely; a seducer when you feel restless; booze, blaze or brown when you feel depressed;* an eating binge when you feel empty; a shopping spree when you feel needy...

A dirty job when you want money; a bad role when you want attention; applause when you want affirmation; compromise when you want it too much and entertainment when you want fame.

So don't get burned and risk a big loss by surrendering your life to lust.

'Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified' (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
