Proverbs For Performers (Part 4)
Wise Warnings: To Hear
Wisdom shouts in the street,

She lifts her voice in the square;

At the head of the noisy streets she cries out;

At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:

'How long, O naive ones, will you love being simple-minded?

And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing

And fools hate knowledge?

Turn to my reproof,

Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you;

I will make my words known to you.'
Proverbs 1:20-23 (NASB)
God may speak to us speak in a still small Voice, but His wisdom argues strongly for our souls. Many Bible commentators believe these public entreaties toward wisdom predicted the ministry of Jesus, as He preached the Good News from town to town.*

God's Son was passionately outspoken, clearly persuasive and completely wise. He pleaded for our attention, because God is not quiet about how to live. Nor is He quiet about how He loves.

One of the ways God loves is through His Word: 'My son, give attention to My Words; Incline your ear to My Sayings. Do not let Them depart from your eyes; Keep Them in the midst of your heart; For They are Life to those who find Them, and Health to all their flesh' (Proverbs 4:20-22).

Another way God loves is through reproof. 'Because the Lord disciplines those He loves, as a father the son he delights in' (Proverbs 3:12).**

Basically, we have two ways to learn: 1) The gentler way is by heeding His Word, His Son, His Spirit and good counselors; 2) The harder way is by tough corrections: a grown-up version of childhood spankings.

But if we refuse lessons one and two, because we choose to remain babes in church, scoff at His Teachings or act like dumb fools, we invite the direst consequences.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Keep your ears tuned to the Lord's channel. If high-tech earbuds block your hearing and cause you to miss His directions, then pull the plug on enemy chords and accept His corrections with thanks!

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
