Proverbs For Performers (Part 63)
Seeing God In Them
He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker.
Proverbs 14:31(NKJV)
He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?' And he said, 'Who are You, Lord?' And He said, 'I am Jesus Whom you are persecuting.'
Acts 9:4-5 (NASB)
'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'

Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' *
Matthew 25:34-40 (NKJV)
Although the Jews are God's chosen people and Christians became Blood kin through Jesus, the Bible shows just one type of person with whom the Lord clearly identifies.

It's not kings because His crown came of thorns. It's not church kings because He denied them. It's not the rich because He traveled light. It's not builders because towers would fall. It's not scholars because He called them fools. It's not doctors because they couldn't cure.

It's not lawyers because they were unfair. It's not beauties because Jesus was plain. It's not the proud because He was humble. It's not the strong because He became weak. It's not leaders because He chose to serve. It's not stars, because they were just phonies.

The Lord identifies with poor people. Personally, He feels their suffering. Their uplifting was His greatest calling.

'The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the Gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed' (Luke 4:18).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Most media fans are poor people. They may or may not look like they're poor. But they're impoverished in purpose. The lives they find most desirable are simulated fiction stories. They belong to pretty pretenders.

So just as Jesus did in His day, you now rise on the enemy's fields, bringing good news of beautiful lives waiting for fans to live them.

But in all of God's amazing plans, don't forget the focus of your role: poor people, the ones the world ignores, deceives, exploits and thinks unworthy. Because God identifies with them.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
