Proverbs For Performers (Part 64)
Serving With Wisdom*
The king's favor is toward a wise servant,
But his wrath is against him who causes shame.
Proverbs 14:35 (NKJV)
A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame,
And will share an inheritance among the brothers.
Proverbs 17:2 (NKJV)
Do not malign a servant to his master,
Lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.
Proverbs 30:10 (NKJV)
Since our Lord and Savior was a Servant, since we must be 'Imitators of God, as dear children' (Ephesians 5:1), copying our Father, since Father and Son are perfectly wise, since we're told to seek Them as wisdom's Source, since the rewards are hefty if we do, since the penalties are worse if we don't, then we need to consider two big things:
1) We aren't free agents, but servants of God. On the day we committed to Jesus, we gave Him our hearts, minds, strength, time and assets. We surrendered our will to His and became His servants, stewards, soldiers and saints.
'Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit Who is in you, Whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's' (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
2) We have a duty to become fruitful: to be productive in our assigned fields. How? By 'The wisdom that is from above' (James 3:17).** Not to be satisfied with Sunday school sermons, shortened and sweetened for children. But to grow up by God's Word and Spirit.
'I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service' (Romans 12:1), 'That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro...' (Ephesians 4:14).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Don't be fooled by modern church masters. Don't be fooled by media's masters. Don't strut around listing your credits. Instead, settle down committed to serve. Good servants are always promoted.
