Proverbs For Performers (Part 74)
Waiting Out Bad Gangs
Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord;
Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.
Proverbs 16:5 (NKJV)
'O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You'...
'You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.'
2 Chronicles 20:12,17 (NKJV)
I can't say I've endured wars or bad gangs. I think much of my life has been sheltered, but I was raised by an activist mom: a Southern beauty who stood for fair play. In an era of desegregation and women mostly staying with the kids, she was a model ahead of her time.
I was the shy and studious fat kid: one who followed behind and learned a lot. When I joined her female-dominated business in the male-dominated 70s, I faced some mean men who made our work hard. My mom would just smile and stick to her guns.
She said, 'Wait them out, Carey. They'll be gone.' And so they were, because God ordained it.
'Wait on the Lord,
And keep His way,
And He shall exalt you to inherit the land;
When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.
I have seen the wicked in great power,
And spreading himself like a native green tree.
Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more;
Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found' (Psalm 37:34-36).
Actors, models and talent for Christ, over and over in the Bible, heroes faced insurmountable odds: like Moses against Pharaoh's great troops, Gideon against Midianites, David against King Saul's mad vengeance, Jehoshaphat against vast armies, Jesus against Caiaphas and Rome or new Christians hated by the world.
Regarding the latter, Jesus said: 'Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world' (John 16:33).
Therein, live as the Lord instructs you. Continue against all odds and wait, because God loves impossible odds. He's already won the biggest war, and you've been cast as His clean up crew. Yes, entertainment giants still reign, and you may face some tough-talking gangs.
Sooner than you think, the odds will turn.
