Proverbs For Performers (Part 77)
Gloating Not Allowed
Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
Lest the Lord see it, and it displease Him,
And He turn away His wrath from him.
Proverbs 24:17-18 (NKJV)
He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 17:5 (NKJV)
Our God of justice avenges all wrongs, and He promises the bad guys will fall. Sooner or later, they'll reap what they sowed. Even more, you'll be in the witness stands. But when the perps are publicly punished, don't gloat over their humiliation. Why?
' 'As I live,' says the Lord God, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live' ' (Ezekiel 33:11)...
Which is why He issued these strange Orders: 'If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink' (Proverbs 25:21). Perhaps mercy will lead him to the Truth.
Next, His Son expanded on these Orders: 'Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you' (Matthew 5:44).
Later, Paul, who seemed to suffer more hits than any other early apostle, both lived and wrote these life-changing Verses:
'Therefore, I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth' (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: I am confident in your mercy, but Satan would have you forget it and gloat over your enemy's pain. The world reasonably assures you: 'That creep got everything he deserved.'
But before Jesus, we were creeps, too.
