Proverbs For Performers (Part 92)
Curses Without Cause
Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying,
So a curse without cause does not alight.
Proverbs 26:2 (NASB)
He who digs a pit will fall into it,
And he who rolls a stone, it will come back on him.
Proverbs 26:27 (NASB)
He also loved cursing, so it came to him;
And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him.
Psalm 109:17 (NASB)
I'm relieved! Curses without cause don't work. Therefore, they can't harm innocent people. I forgot Proverbs 28:19, in which God illustrates His protection. Therefore, I've been rebuking hateful words, refusing to allow vicious insults to stick in me or anyone I loved.
But I remember this promise from God: lying schemers will fall in their own traps. 'Yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made. His trouble shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown' (Psalm 7:14-16).
Nevertheless, consider a question: If the fiery darts hurled from evil mouths can't make us bleed or ruin our futures, why do word curses upset us so much? Is it because we choose to believe them? Is it because we choose to take offense?*
Actors, models and talent for Christ: You broadcast the power of good words, so curses have no place in your life. Therefore, consider two safety plans:
1) Speak on the Armor of God daily. Recently, someone asked me how that works. In prayer, I make It personal: applying His armament to me, and extending it over my house.**
2) Shake the dust of bad words from your feet.*** Jesus exited plenty of places, as did Paul and the early disciples. So forgive, move on and don't look back when mean-mouthed men try to curse you.

** Following is a paraphrase of a prayer, which I speak out loud (if possible) because spoken words have power. Whether or not God receives it and how He fulfills it is His business. But in hope, I choose to believe He hears and protects.
'Dear Lord: If You are willing to fulfill these words, I pray on the Armor of God over me, my house, and those I love. I pray on the belt of truth, which is of Your Holy Spirit. He is not only within us, but He surrounds us. We won't believe or receive lies. Through You, we discern the truth. I pray on the breastplate of righteousness, which is the Blood of Jesus. He died to forgive our sins and make us righteous before You. Over me and my house, I pray on the footgear of peace. We seek peace and pursue it. Over me and my house, I hold up the shield of faith, so the fiery darts of the enemy won't stick. We may feel the impact, but they cannot harm us. I pray on the helmet of salvation, which is the sure knowledge that we are of you. We belong to you. Our minds are clear and strong. Bad thoughts cannot penetrate this helmet. Through you, we have the Mind of Christ. Through You, we take up the Sword of the Spirit, Which is the Word of God. It is written, 'If you continue in My Word, then you are My disciples indeed, and you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free.' We continue in Your Word, Lord. Therefore, we are your disciples. We are free of Satan's lies and chains. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus' Name I pray.'
