Proverbs For Performers: Secluding Yourself
A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire;
He rages against all wise judgment.
Proverbs 18:1 (NKJV)
Two are better than one,
Because they have a good reward for their labor.
For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.
But woe to him who is alone when he falls,
For he has no one to help him up.
Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;
But how can one be warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NKJV)
Secluding yourself in prayer is good. Everyone needs time alone with the Lord.

'And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing... that they may be seen by men... But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father' (Matthew 6:5-6, NKJV).*

Jesus, the Man, our earthly Example, 'Often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed' (Luke 5:16, NKJV). Therein, God guided and replenished Him.

Secluding yourself in life is not good. I am tempted toward isolation, beyond what is biblical or helpful. Perhaps the earlier hurts in my life prompted me to build walls of protection.

But haven't some churches done the same thing? I've been quick to denounce those walls and roofs. Maybe you should shout, Hypocrite! I hear you.

'For in fact the body is not one member, but many... And the eye cannot say to the hand, 'I have no need of you'; nor again the head to the feet, 'I have no need of you' ' (1 Corinthians 12:14, 21, NKJV).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: You've gotten this part right, and I'm glad. Like Jesus, you go into the world. You walk forward as a family, inviting others to walk with you.

Because the power of One is Three: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit teach us about strength in fellowship. Seclusion isn't the way of God.

'I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, I am there in the midst of them' (Matthew 18:19-20, NKJV).

## Proverbs For Performers: Secluding Yourself (Part 79)

* Entire Verse: 'And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father Who is in the secret place; and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you openly' (Matthew 6:5-6).

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2016 devotion series, 'Proverbs For Performers.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
