Proverbs For Performers: Women Of Virtue, Their Kin
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:
'Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.'
Proverbs 31:28-29 (NKJV)*
Behind two brothers, I was the youngest. My elder brother died some years ago, following a long and disabling fight with Parkinson's disease, a cruel foe. Our mom fought the same battle. She lost big. Johnny knew exactly what was coming.

I became a Christian while he was sick, but Johnny had been a lifelong Buddhist. I tried to talk to him about Jesus, but in big brother style, he shut me down. A that time, my grown children weren't Christians.**

So I was eager to know the fate of the non-believing kin of believers. Like the Bereans, I sought out Scripture.*** I took comfort in wonderful Verses about the power of prayer and faith. Also, in how the brothers of Jesus (and the families of God's stars) were saved.

'The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much' (James 5:16, NKJV).

'Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive' (Matthew 21:22-23, NKJV).

I didn't believe they were 'auto-saved,' but I believed God would take extra steps to open their ears and hearts to His Word, that they might proclaim Christ, even at death-- like the sinner on the Cross next to Him.****

Actors, models and talent for Christ: People (and kin) learn by example. Is that why Jesus spent 33 years on earth? To be our Prototype?

Both countable kin and countless fans will be saved by your performances: Yes, on stage, but especially off. Add your fervent prayer to the mix. Then stand back and see God's mighty work.

** My daughters and sons-in-law became believers. Regarding my bed-bound, Buddhist brother: On the day he passed away, a nurse (an angel-in-disguise?) told me he had found Jesus in the day(s) before and was saved. His passing is a tragic and amazing story for a different time.

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2016 devotion series, 'Proverbs For Performers.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
