Proverbs For Performers: Women Of Virtue, Their Reach*
She is like the merchant ships,
She brings her food from afar...
Proverbs 31:14 (NKJV)
For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents...
Matthew 25:14-16 (NKJV)
The Proverbs woman of virtue (the church), doesn't limit herself to a small space.

'She is like the merchant ships,... Not like a single one, but like a navy of them, that cross the seas, go to foreign parts, and come back laden with rich goods: so the church of Christ, and her true members, like ships of burden... and though they have often difficult and dangerous passages, are tossed with tempests, and covered with billows; yet, Christ being their pilot, faith their sail, and hope their anchor, they weather the seas, ride out all storms, and come safe home with their merchandise' (Gill's Exposition on Proverbs 31:14).**

The Proverbs woman of virtue (the church), doesn't bury God's talent in the ground.

'Christ keeps no servants to be idle: they have received their all from him, and have nothing they can call their own but sin. Our receiving from Christ is in order to our working for him. The manifestation of the Spirit is given to every to every man to profit withal' (Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Matthew 25:14-30).**

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Like the Proverbs woman of virtue, you don't bury or limit your reach. You invest and extend God's assets: a truly glorious performance. Because taking them into the world is exactly what He said to do.

'How then shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!' ' (Romans 10:14-15, NKJV).

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2016 devotion series, 'Proverbs For Performers.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
