Public Relations (Part 3)
False Witness
A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness will utter lies.
Proverbs 14:5 (NKJV)
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
2 Peter 2:1 (NKJV)
And the Lord said to me, 'The prophets prophesy lies in My Name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.
Jeremiah 14:14 (NKJV)
The way I see it (and perhaps God), the biggest problem in our world today is not Jihad, atheists or other religions; it's not drugs, warlords or dictators; it's not rising crime, idol worship or corruption. It's not even Satan.

I believe the biggest problem in our world today is the false witness of Jesus Christ--by phony Christians.

The biggest problem cannot be, nor ever has been, misery on this earth: 'In the world you will have tribulation' (John 16:33); 'In the last days perilous times will come' (2 Timothy 3:1). Because 'The whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one' (1 John 5:19).

But praise God! Jesus gave us power over the wicked one: 'Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you' (Luke 10:19). 'For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith' (1 John 5:4).

But what about those without our faith? Where do they find the power to overcome anything? 'How then shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?' (Romans 10:14).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: you are that preacher.

You know false witnesses who profess to speak for Jesus. You know their hypocrisy, and you look beyond it to the true One--as well you should. But know this also: Phony Christians have repelled millions from the true Christ (including me for 51 years). Because we did not want to be like them, we did not know the real Him.

Let them meet Him through you.

As for false witnesses within the church? God's Epistles, written by the hands of Luke, Paul, Peter, James, John and Jude address this serious topic. Consider also the Words of Jesus in His Letters to the seven churches, including These: 'You have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars' (Revelation 2:2).*

We must do likewise: 'Test all things; hold fast what is good' (1 Thessalonians 5:21). 'Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good' (Romans 12:9).

Don't overlook hypocrisy. You may be wise enough to recognize it, but others are not. Your silence in the face of church corruption is counted by God as assent.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
