Public Relations (Part 7)
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Holy and awesome is His Name. *
Psalm 111:9 (NKJV)
For His Name alone is exalted.
Psalm 148:13 (NKJV)
The Name of the Lord is a strong Tower; The righteous run to It and are safe.
Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV)
And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved.
Joel 2:32, Acts 2:21 NKJV (also see Romans 10:13)
And He shall stand and feed His flock In the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the Name of the Lord His God; And they shall abide, For now He shall be great to the ends of the earth.
Micah 5:4 (NKJV)
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord.
James 5:14 (NKJV)
And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the Name of the Lord.
Acts 22:16 (NKJV)
I fear God. I am in awe of God. When I try to thank God, I fall short. When I try to describe God, I fall shorter. To me, He is beyond all words and impossible to describe. Nevertheless, I consider myself a publicist for the Lord, so I reach for the unreachable.

Consider: 'In the Tanakh (the Jewish Bible), YHVH** is the personal Name of God and His most frequent designation, occurring over 6800 times. This is the Ineffable Name or Unutterable Name of the God of Israel...'

'The Name YHVH also bespeaks the utter transcendence of God. In Himself, God is beyond all 'predictions' or attributes of language: He is the Source and Foundation of all possibility to utterance and thus is beyond all definite descriptions...'

'Warning: The Name of the Lord represents His power, actions and reputation in the universe. Almighty God cannot be 'conjured' or treated as an object, since He is the Master of the universe and subject to no one. It is chilul HaShem (desecration) to attempt to invoke the Name of God for selfish or manipulative purposes' (Hebrew4Christians website). ***

Actors, models and talent for Christ: you are publicists. You are messengers. You are performers of excellence. You are actors of truth. You are 'Ambassadors for Christ as though God were making an appeal' (2 Corinthians 5:20) through you!

The Name of the Lord carries inconceivable power: power to bind, heal, cleanse, lift, fight, win and save; power to transform, forgive, protect and deliver. So don't throw His Name around carelessly.

In Its use, be awestruck. Be intentional. Do not judge outsiders for their ignorant irreverence. Instead, be carriers of good news and helpful actions. That's the best publicity you can give Him.

However, when brothers and sisters in Christ are careless with His Name, correct them. Do it gently and with love, but don't remain silent.

To Be Continued...

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
