Rebels Without A Cause (Part 4, Conclusion)
I Spy With My Little Eye
If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, 'a land which flows with milk and honey.' Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.
Numbers 14:8-10 (NKJV)
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21 (NKJV)
Chapters 13 and 14 in the Book of Numbers might describe the American church peeking at Hollywood. I suggest you read it from that perspective.
In the Bible, Moses sent twelve top men to spy out God's Promised Land: 'A land which flows with milk and honey.' Upon returning to the their camp, a nation on the move with 600,000 adult men, ten of the twelve spies were terrified:
'The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature... and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight' (Numbers 13:32-33). By their fear, they lost their cause and became rebels. They paid a great price: 599,998 men died in the wilderness.
Surely, the majority of today's church leaders consider Hollywood to be a land that devours its inhabitants: an impenetrable fortress controlled by giants.
Paul's list of sins from Galatians might describe the hot action in media today. A good Christian might shudder at the prospect of surviving and thriving in such a place. Consider them like fearful children playing a deadly game called, 'I Spy With My Little Eye.'
Joshua and Caleb spied it differently: 'The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us' (Numbers 14:7-8).
They spied not with their own little eyes, but with the Mighty Eyes of God.
Actors, models and talent for Christ see it the same way. They see the entertainment industry through the Eyes of God: a place where they belong. They see it through the Eyes of Jesus: a place in need of love.
They see it in the light of His Great Commission: a hill to fly His standard.
From the mountains of media, arts and entertainment, rebels without a cause will see a great light. From the standard set by actors, models and talent for Christ, rebels without a cause will find the Cause to follow:
His Name is Truth.
