Recess: School Dropouts
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1 Timothy 6:9 (NKJV)
If God wants our short semester on earth
to be a School of Wisdom (and knowledge),

If He delivered the Rules through Moses,
but They were hard and people kept failing,

If God's Son became our new Principal,
Who fulfilled and simplified the Rule Book,

If He pre-paid everyone's tuition:
all the debts we could never pay ourselves,

If He and His faculty defend us
from the bullies who try to take us down,

If He knows the course of study is hard
and offers recess for rest and relief,

If He leads all students who follow Him
to the most wonderful graduation...

But if Satan was once God's brilliant aid,
who got proud and started a mutiny,

If he lost the war, was banished to earth,
And struts around in a Versace suit,

The king of con is taking his revenge.
by tempting God's children to follow him.

Away from Wisdom School into trouble.
How? Presenting life as entertainment.

People are glued to flat-screen illusions: shows, stars and stuff offering happiness through distractions that aren't real and won't last.

By living King Con's version of recess, fans spend themselves on amusing trifles.

Most fall into pits of fear, loss and debt. Others, traveling on rafts of success, don't realize their air-time is ending...

## Recess: School Dropouts (Part 2)

NOTE: This is a 2021 update of a 2011 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Recess series.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
