Rejection (Part 3)
Why We Must Accept It
Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.... This is a hard saying; who can understand it?... From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
John 6:54,60,66 (NKJV)
If indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:3-5 (NKJV)
Jesus said to them, 'Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The Stone which the builders rejected has become the chief Cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes' '?
Matthew 21:42 (NKJV)
Actors, models and talent for Christ: you are rock stars. You are living stones raised on the Foundation of the ultimate Rock Star, Who is Jesus. Together, you form a new kind of church. It's a spiritual house without physical walls, without denominations or manmade rules.

It's a new kind of hierarchy that eliminates intermediaries, 'For there is one God, and one Mediator also between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus' (1 Timothy 2:5). It's a church that goes to the people, rather than the people that go to a church.

In Jesus' day many disciples, even those who witnessed His miracles first-hand, could not accept this structure. Therefore, they 'Went back and walked with Him no more' (John 6:66). Note the only use of 6:66 in the New Testament. Does our religiosity resemble the mark of the beast?*

Actors, models and talent for Christ: if you are 'Being built up into a spiritual house,' what are the 'Spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God' (1 Peter 2:5)? Consider one opinion: your 'whole selves, souls, and bodies, as a holy, living, and acceptable sacrifice... prayers and praises, and all good works done in faith, and from love, and to the glory of God' (Gill's Exposition of the Bible).

Who might reject you? On one side, the world. But God is opening this door for you right now. On the other side, the world's church--as in the religious constructs of men. The apostle Paul put it this way:

'We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed--always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body' (2 Corinthians 4:8-10).

Never has your witness been more important. That's why you must expect rejection--and pass through it.

To Be Continued...

* John 6:66 is the only Book of the New Testament to carry this chapter and verse number. In Revelation, Jesus reveals the supernatural meaning of the number 666. 'This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666' (Revelation 13:18).

I don't profess to be wise, but I call your attention to this coincidental or (in my opinion) intentional correlation of numbers. A large number of the original disciples left Jesus, being unable or unwilling to give up 'religion' (rules offering profit to few) for 'relationship' (communion offering salvation to all).

** Actors, models and talent for Christ: consider the chapter preceding this, 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, as being written directly to you!

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
