Therefore everyone who hears these Words of Mine and acts on Them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.
For it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.
But prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.
For they hear Your Words but they do not practice Them.
Awhile back, a devotion reader asked my opinion on the question of guaranteed
salvation for believers who truly profess Jesus as their Lord.*
This seeking saint said he and some close friends were praying, debating and researching God's Word in their quest for enlightenment: an honorable and worthy pursuit. I hope all Christians follow that same course.
'Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus' (Philippians 3:13-14).
Unless we profess Christ on our death beds (meaning we've had time to walk with the Lord), I believe both faith and works are required.
'You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?' (James 2:19-20).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Hearing God's Word is a lovely thing. Doing His Word is a better thing.
Hear this thing. Demons dance on our roofs: including the roofs of grand churches... while inside sit stationary saints: saints who hear the Word, but don't live like it.
Church attendance doesn't spell salvation. J-E-S-U-S is the Word Who saves, and He demands heartfelt obedience: not perfection, but perfection's pursuit.
Every professional performer (who has lasting industry success), practices
his chosen profession. He studies scripts and goes to classes. He pursues his goal vigorously. He perseveres through many trials.
Should we who profess Christ as our Goal do less than those who do not know Him?
You were chosen to be action stars. So be encouraged in your journey. You'll not only reach countless hopeful fans, you'll inspire Christians to rise as well.
## Self-Examination 2020: Ears, Hearing And Doing (Part 23)

NOTE: This is a 2020 edit of a 2017 Shine Devotion series, 'Self-Examination.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Self-Examination 2020 series.
