Self-Examination 2021: Lesser Parts
The eye can never say to the hand, 'I don't need you.' The head can't say to the feet, 'I don't need you.' In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other.
1 Corinthians 12:21-25 (NLT)
Since God calls His church the body of Christ, since He is most assuredly its Head, what parts would His followers like to play?

Would preachers make a case to be His voice?
Would prophets stake a claim to be His eyes?
Would elders assume the role of His arms?
Would pastors be the hand to hold His staff?
Would missionaries be His moving legs?

But what of the parts not easily seen? Might the lesser parts be less appealing?

Like His dusty feet in well-worn sandals,
Like His stomach fasting for forty days,
Like His bottom sitting on rough hewn floors,
Like His bending knees in humble prayer,
Like His tear ducts crying in sympathy,
Like His closed mouth refusing self-defense,
Like His torn back brutalized by scourging,
Like His pierced hands spread and nailed to a cross.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Although you're called to public platforms, appreciate every lesser part:

Like being an extra on a set,
Like performing in a nursing home,
Like school, church and unpaid productions,
Like enjoying every audition,
Like being a support to others.

The world screams: Be a star! Be a star! God defines stardom differently. It's not about the size of your role. It's about the stature of your heart.

'For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted' (Luke 14:11, NIV).

## Self-Examination 2021: Lesser Parts (Part 95)

NOTE: This is a 2021 edit of a 2017 Shine Devotion series, 'Self-Examination.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
