Self-Examination 2021: Shoulders, Your Assignment
For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His Shoulders;
And His Name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 (NASB)
What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
Luke 15:4-5 (NKJV)
Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the Law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2 (NASB)
Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
Luke 14:27 (NASB)
But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear.
Zechariah 7:11 (NKJV)
In your godly self-examination, check out your spiritual shoulder strength.

Because in God's Book, shoulders carry loads. In fact, based on what Jesus did and said, lifting large loads are holy assignments.

Will they be too much for us to handle? No!

'Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, Who daily bears our burdens' (Psalm 68:19, NIV).

Why must we heft heavy burdens at all?

'We were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life... that we should not trust in ourselves but in God' (2 Corinthians 1:8-9, NKJV).

Should we carry weight for other men? Yes!

'Uphold the weak' (1 Thessalonians 5:14, NKJV); 'When Moses' hands grew tired... Aaron and Hur held his hands up--one on one side, one on the other--so that his hands remained steady till sunset' (Exodus 17:12, NIV).

What if we shrug our shoulders and refuse?

'They shrugged their shoulders, stiffened their necks, and would not hear... Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands' (Nehemiah 9:29-30, NKJV).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Cameras make slim shoulders look broader, but most stars don't look as good off set. Therefore (spiritually speaking), let people see you shoulder big loads--with courage and generosity.

What fans may not catch on their first glance is the unseen God off-camera. But consider this scene's conclusion: When viewers applaud your heroics, you point them to God as your strength's Source.

## Self-Examination 2021: Shoulders, Your Assignment (Part 78)

* Short article: Does God promise to not give us more than we can handle?

NOTE: This is a 2021 edit of a 2017 Shine Devotion series, 'Self-Examination.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
