The mind of the prudent acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.
Take heed what you hear.
For the ear tests words as the palate tastes food.
If our ears are like a port of entry, if God's Word cruises through them to the heart, if the devil wants to control that port, if he fights fiercely for occupancy, if he begins to gain the upper deck, if he shuts the gates to the Words of God, but he pushes his own deceits through them...
If saints are commissioned soldiers of God, if we're fighting the powers of darkness, if we're told to learn Satan's devices, if we need to know his desired targets, if we must defend the port of the ears, if we must rebuke intimidation, consider three of his battle cries:
1. Rebellion! What Satan calls 'freedom' is rebellion, but lawlessness deafens men and cultures. 'Son of man, you live in the midst of the rebellious house, who have eyes to see but do not see, ears to hear but do not hear; for they are a rebellious house' (Ezekiel 12:2). 'A scoffer does not listen' (Proverbs 13:1). 'They will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead' (Luke 16:31).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Close your ears to words of rebellion.
2. Prosperity! What Satan calls 'prosperity' is stuff: possessions, credentials and clapping hands. 'Do not let your prophets who are in your midst and your diviners deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams which they dream. For they prophesy falsely to you in My Name' (Jeremiah 29:8-9). 'You cannot serve both God and money' (Matthew 6:24). 'Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?' (James 4:4).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Close your ears to words of false prophets.
3. Hot News! What Satan calls 'hot news' is tempting, like gossip, sweet deals and false visions. 'For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables' (2 Timothy 4:3-4). 'Do not associate with a gossip' (Proverbs 20:19).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Close your ears to words of tempting news.
'For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it' (Hebrews 2:1).
