Self-Examination (Part 22)
Ears: Ready And Open
Now therefore, O sons, listen to me, for blessed are they who keep my ways. Heed instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my doorposts.

Proverbs 8:32-34 (NASB)
A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul.
Acts 16:14 (NASB)
So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear...

James 1:19 (NKJV)
For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.

Acts 4:20 (NASB)
Actors, models and talent for Christ, in this age of modern media, naive ears stay ready and open for the messages of earth's con men:

Newsmen pushing their own opinions; sellers promoting their merchandise; protesters picketing things they hate; Twitter publicizing ugly tweets; actors pretending to be heroes; singers performing to please the world; celebs parading lavish lifestyles; preachers promising prosperity and politicians plying for votes.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: You're rising in the midst of this hype as messengers of love, joy and hope: truth tellers in an untruthful world; showoffs in the best sense of The Word.

While you contend with Satan's hype-stars to reach the ears of innocent fans, be assured: God is behind your rise. He's the Leader of His orchestra. He's the Director of this movement. He's the Owner of media's fields.

So wear your spiritual ear buds to filter out obvious con games. But at the same time, listen to God. Station yourself daily at His gates to receive His Messages and cues. Where are His gates in the here and now? His Word and our prayer time are gates of communication, as well as His Spirit's deep promptings.

What can be of greater importance than listening to the Lord we serve?

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
